About the Public Safety Commission
The Town of Southampton Public Safety Commission was established by Local Law 3 of 2009 on February 10, 2009, by amending Chapter 19 of the Code of the Town of Southampton. The commission is charged with hearing appeals and rendering decisions related to the denial of a Special Event or Parade Permit Application, or rescission of a permit, by the chief fire marshal or the chief of police.
Key Dates
- On May 26, 2009, by amending Chapter 19 (Local Law 21 of 2009) the Town Board granted additional authority to the Public Safety Commission to hear appeals and render decisions relating to the denial of an Outdoor Sidewalk Dining application, or the rescission of an Outdoor Sidewalk Dining License.
- On April 13, 2010, by amending Chapter 19 (Local Law 11 of 2010) the Town Board granted additional authority to the Public Safety Commission to hear appeals and render decisions relating to the denial or rescission of Facilities Use and Alcohol Beverage Permits.
- On October 26, 2010, by adopting Local Law 34 of 2010, the Town Board granted additional authority to the Public Safety Commission to hear appeals and render decisions relating to false police and fire alarm fees.
- On November 30, 2010, by adopting Local Law 37 of 2010, the Town Board granted additional authority to the Public Safety Commission to hear appeals and render decisions relating to the denial or rescission of Commercial Animal Enterprise permits.
- On April 26, 2011, by adopting Local Law 11 of 2011, the Town Board granted additional authority to the Public Safety Commission to hear appeals and render decisions relating to the denial or rescission of temporary farm stand permits.
- On March 28, 2017, by adopting Local Law 5 of 2017, the Town Board granted additional authority to the Public Safety Commission to hear appeals and render decisions relating to the denial or rescission of Commercial/Educational Filming.
- On December 28, 2021, by adopting Local Law 26 of 2021, the Town Board granted additional authority to the Public Safety Commission to hold public hearings to consider an applicant's appeal based upon denial or revocation of a Peddler's license.
- On July 12, 2022, by adopting Local Law 16 of 2022, the Town Board granted additional authority to the Public Safety Commission to hold public hearings to consider a permit holder's appeal based upon a revocation of a rental permit.
