Nathaniel Rogers House

COMPLETED 2020

Nathaniel Rogers

This historic home at the corner of Montauk Highway and Ocean Road was built as a simple farmhouse in 1824 and transformed in 1840 by renowned “miniature portrait” artist Nathaniel Rogers into one of the finest examples of Greek Revival architecture in New York State. It turned into a fashionable hotel in the 1890’s. But it fell into disrepair. Now it’s undergoing a multi-phase, multi-million dollar renovation with funding from the Bridgehampton Museum, Southampton Town Community Preservation Fund and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. It could be ready for public use by 2019.

The second phase has recently been completed. This phase included the restoration of windows and doors and the installation of the electrical and HVAC system. The final phase will restore the interior including walls, ceilings, wood floors, stairs and railings, light fixtures and exterior site work. When completed, the building will house the collection of the Bridgehampton Museum and be open to the public.
